Your Purpose in Business and How to Make it Happen

Purpose in BusinessViktor Emil Frankl, an Austrian neurologist and psychiatrist, survived the most deplorable conditions human beings have ever forced other human beings to suffer – the Nazi concentration camps. Between 1942 and 1945 Frankl labored in four camps, including Auschwitz.

His book, Man’s Search for Meaning, written in 1946, chronicles Frankl’s observations of the diverse responses of prisoners to sustained, inhumane conditions. It also introduces his psychological theory, “logotherapy,” which grew out of his discoveries of lessons for spiritual survival, under even the most dire of circumstances.

From the Greek word “logos”– in English, “meaning” or “reason” – the theory holds that our primary drive in life is to discover and pursue what we find personally meaningful, which thus imparts a reason to live. And as this quote from his book purports, pursuit of that purpose brings even greater fulfillment: “The more one forgets himself–by giving himself to a cause to serve or another person to love–the more human he is and the more he actualizes himself.”

How does this apply to business? It’s that all-important formula that helps you never lose sight of:

  • WHY you do what you do,
  • what you are in business to accomplish, and
  • what need(s) you are meeting.

That focus is important in order to maintain perspective and direction. But what about all the details of HOW you make your business what you envision?

That’s where I come in. My WHY is your HOW. Purpose for me comes in helping business owners optimize the financial components of their company. In my more than 35 years as a business owner, specializing in financial management, I’ve developed an extensive repertoire of methods and solutions so you don’t have to search for them yourself, allowing you to maintain focus on why you are in the business you’re in.
